Habitat Students to Stage Sleepover on IWU's Quad
April 5, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-The Illinois Wesleyan University chapter of Habitat for Humanity
will spend the night of Wednesday, April 6, on the Eckley Quadrangle, located in the
heart of the University's campus.
As part of the demonstration, which is meant to highlight homelessness and poverty,
students will construct a “shanty town” to house the 10 to 15 Habitat members who
will stay overnight on the quad-rain or shine. Participants will also distribute information
about the activity's purpose while on site.
Assistant Professor of Political Science Greg Shaw, the faculty advisor to Illinois
Wesleyan's Habitat for Humanity, worked with students to plan the event.
IWU's chapter is a subsidiary of Habitat for Humanity McLean County, a non-profit
housing ministry that partners with families in need and local volunteers to build
decent, affordable homes, for which the homeowners pay an interest-free mortgage.
