Senior Ceramic Work Purchased by The Ames Library

May 26, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the tenth year in a row, The Ames Library has purchased a work of art from an Illinois Wesleyan graduating senior art student. Selected this year was the artwork of Kristy White of Dubuque, Iowa. White, an art major, is also the former captain of the women's volleyball team.

According to Bob Delvin, fine arts librarian and associate professor, the art is purchased “to spruce up the library and support our students.”

White's pieces, three ceramic “pots,” entitled “Three Vessels: Ceramics,” will be displayed on the first floor of the library until next year's purchase when the works will be permanently relocated the second floor.

Each year, Delvin and Sue Stroyan, university librarian and professor, select the piece that the library will purchase. They attend a pre-showing at the University's Merwin and Wakeley Galleries and receive input from the School of Art professors before making their final decision. Past selections have included oil on canvas, prints, and ceramics.
