IWU Students Encouraged to "Make a Difference"

October 24, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - In celebration of National Make a Difference Day, Illinois Wesleyan University's Student Volunteer Center will host its own version of the day on Saturday, October 29, in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington) from 1- 4 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan students are invited to make ornaments for the Adoption Unit of the Baby Fold in Normal and create decorations and cards for the residents of Heritage Manor Retirement Community, which has locations in both Bloomington and Normal.  Additionally, participants may help separate business cards for Stepping Stones, a YWCA organization that provides 24-hour assistance for McLean County victims of sexual assault or abuse and their families.  Another project will support the American Red Cross of the Heartland.

National Make a Difference Day was created by USA Weekend Magazine and is recognized nationwide every year on the fourth Saturday in October.  This year, IWU's Fall Break weekend, as well as staff professional conferences, fell on that Saturday, so the campus celebration of Make a Difference Day was pushed back to the following week.
