Illinois Wesleyan’s Risk Management and Insurance Program Receives Grant

October 4, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—With contributions from the Robert P. Ashlock Memorial Fund established by Assurex Global, the Griffith Foundation has awarded Illinois Wesleyan a grant in the amount of $3,700 in support of the Robert P. Ashlock Adjunct Professor in Risk Management & Insurance program at the university for the 2005-06 academic year.

The grant will help to expand IWU’s risk management and insurance program by providing the funds for an adjunct professor.

Founded in 1947 at Ohio State University in memory of Charles W. Griffith, a life insurance underwriter who was killed in WW II, the education foundation promotes the teaching of risk management and insurance at colleges and universities throughout the United States.  The nonprofit educational corporation, which relies solely on contributions, also provides education programs for public policymakers on the basic principles of risk management and insurance.  In addition to funding adjunct professorships, the foundation also provides executive-in-residence programs and faculty internships to provide practical industry experiences for risk management and insurance students and professors.

Assurex Global Partners, founded in 1954 in Columbus, Ohio, is the largest privately held risk management, commercial insurance and employed benefits brokerage group with annual premiums of over $21 billion.
