Background: Concert Master of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Violin at Western University Julieta Mihai will be the guest violinist for the IWU faculty chamber ensemble.

Mihai began studying the violin at the George Enescu Music School in Bucharest in Romania. She later studied at the Music Academy in Cluj and at the Music Academy in Bucharest.

Mihai received the Master of Musical Arts degree in 1996, and the Doctorate in Musical Arts, Violin Performance, in May 2003 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has performed in solo concerts and recitals in the United States, Romania, Germany, Austria, and Japan.

Also on the program will be Lawrence Campbell, the Fern Rosetta Sherff Professor of Music, on piano. Campbell began to study piano at age eight, and after three years of study he received first place in a national piano competition for his improvisations on hymn tunes. He graduated magna cum laude at Northwestern University and awarded the Doctor of Music degree in performance with highest distinction at Indiana University. Campbell has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Cellist and Assistant Professor of Cello and Chamber Music Nina Gordon will also perform the cello. Gordon is the principal cellist with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. She has held positions with the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.

Gordon was also Associate principal cellist with the Florida Philharmonic and principal cellist with the Colorado Music Festival in Bolder, Colorado. She has taught cello and chamber music at MidAmerica Chamber Music Institute at Ohio Wesleyan University, at Sound Encounters Music Festival in Ottawa, Kansas, and at the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.

Lecturer of Music Lisa Nelson will play the viola. Nelson is a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and the Sinfonia da Camera. She has performed with the Peoria Symphony, Opera Illinois, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, and as principal violist of the Enescu Ensemble. Nelson regularly performs in recitals throughout Illinois and the Midwest.
