Illinois Wesleyan to Host 6th Annual Cello Camp

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-Illinois Wesleyan will host its sixth annual cello camp on June
9-19 as part of its 2005 Summer Music Program in Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington).
The cello camp is open to cellists of high school and junior high school ages who
wish to participate in two weeks of intense cello study. The cost of tuition for the
camp, which includes lessons, classes and electives, is $415. Room and board, which
includes lunch and dinner, is available for an additional $345.
Local students have the option of purchasing a meal plan, which includes only lunches
for $72. The application deadline is May 1, 2005. Nina Gordon, professor of cello
and chamber music at IWU is the founder and director of the camp and Lisa Nelson,
lecturer in music at IWU, is the camp administrator.
The daily schedule will include private cello lessons, cello ensembles, master classes,
performances, and elective studies such as piano lessons, drawing and painting, ear-training,
tennis, singing, and conversational Italian. Scholarships are available for applicants.
The camp will also offer international dance, swimming, knitting and outdoor sports
and games to all participants.
The camp will conclude with the 12th Annual Midwest Cello Celebration on Saturday,
June 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall, highlighting the
students, faculty and guests participants. This program is free and open to the public.
