BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University Jazz Ensemble will perform a Fall Concert on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington). The concert is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Thomas W. Streeter, professor of music and director of the jazz program at IWU, the Jazz Ensemble will perform "Summertime" by George and Ira Gershwin, "The Wiggle Walk" by Benny Carter, "Chega De Saudade (No More Blues)" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, "All of Me" by Simons and Marks, "Come Sunday" by Duke Ellington, "Georgia on My Mind" by Hoagy Carmichael, the traditional piece "When the Saints," "Alone" by Lou Marini, "What is a Woman" as arranged by Wes Hensel, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" by Fields and McHugh, "Shuffle Till You Drop" by Tom Kubis and "Caracas" by Bert Ligon.
The IWU Jazz Ensemble has performed throughout the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean and has been featured at numerous jazz festivals and at the Illinois Music Educators Association conferences. The literature for the ensemble includes music from all big band styles, with an emphasis on jazz "classics."
