IWU Hunger Banquet to Support Tsunami Relief

March 28, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's International Studies Program will sponsor a “Hunger Banquet” on Thursday, March 31, at 5:30 p.m. in the Davidson Room of the Memorial Center (104 E. University St., Bloomington).

The money raised from the event will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund. Tickets for the banquet are $5 and will be available from Multi-Programs Office Coordinator Regina Linsalata in room 150 of the Center for Liberal Arts (205 Beecher St., Bloomington).

The Hunger Banquet will represent the inequality of nutrition and caloric intake around the world. Participants in the banquet will be served a meal that represents one-third of the daily food intake of a typical citizen from a selected country. For instance, someone may be served a steak dinner or a bowl of rice, depending upon whether they represent a citizen from a rich country or a poor country.
