BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's University Chapel Hour and Special Events and Services, in conjunction with Illinois State University, will host an Advent Communion service on Friday, Dec. 9, at 11 p.m. in Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).
The service, which is free and open to the public, will have communion available for all willing to receive it.
Holy Communion is a celebration in which communicants receive bread and/or wine as symbols of nourishment from the Holy Spirit. Holy Communion is Eucharist, meaning an act of giving thanks, during which communicants reflect and thank God for all the blessings they have received during the past year. In preparation for Christmas, parishioners attend a special Advent Communion to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ.
