Senior Artwork on Display in Merwin and Wakeley Galleries

April 5, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-Illinois Wesleyan will host BFA/BA Senior Art Exhibitions from April 7-22 at the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries in the Ames School of Art (6 Ames Plaza West, Bloomington).

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12-4 p.m.; Tuesday evening, 7-9 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.

All events will take place in the galleries and are free and open to the public.

The annual show offers graduating art majors and minors an opportunity to exhibit their finest works produced during their senior year. This year's exhibition will feature works from many areas of the art program, including painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design and ceramics.

In conjunction with Illinois Wesleyan's Spring Family Weekend, on Saturday, April 16, there will be a reception for the exhibition from 1 to 3 p.m., and an awards ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The Ames Library Purchase Award, now in its 10th year, is among the awards to be presented at the ceremony. As part of the award, The Ames Library will select and purchase a work from the senior exhibition to become part of the library's permanent collection. The selected work will be displayed on the first floor of the library for the duration of one year before it is moved to its permanent location on the library's second floor.

The Center for Liberal Arts Social Sciences Art Purchase Award also will be presented. This award is supported by members of Illinois Wesleyan's social sciences faculty, who select and purchase one work to be displayed in the Center for Liberal Arts building.

Following the awards ceremony and reception, a session of the University-wide John Wesley Powell Student Research Conference will convene in the galleries. From 4 to 5 p.m., refreshments will be served while students, who have participated in a year-long senior critique program, discuss their works on display in the exhibit.

The following students, all of whom are members of the class of 2005, are participating in the BA/BFA exhibition:
