Illinois Wesleyan Trustee Featured in New York Times Article
Todd French performs with the Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestra.
Illinois Wesleyan Trustee Todd French, a 1993 graduate of the University, is featured
in a story about entrepreneurs in the October 27, 2005, edition of The New York Times.
The story recounts the way in which French is able to run his Appleton, Wis.-based
company, StringWorks, while residing in the Los Angeles area where he is a cellist
with the Los Angeles Opera Company.
Accompanying the story is a photograph of French rehearsing with the Illinois Wesleyan
Civic Orchestra on the day prior to his performance with the orchestra during Homecoming
Of his ability to operate StringWorks essentially in absentia, French says: "Nobody could do what I do without having a staff that can basically
run the business without you.” As the article notes, that staff includes a sales manager
he has known since childhood and a vice president and office manager he has known
even longer — his mother.
