Director, Office of Diversity & Inclusion

Reporting to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this position supports underrepresented students (students of color, LGBTQIA+, 1st generation students, etc.) through the development of programs/initiatives focused on student success related to retention, academic excellence and graduation. The Director works with students, staff and faculty to enhance appreciation and understanding of diverse identities. This position serves on the Diversity Advisory Committee, Bias Incident Response Team, and collaborates with other university departments.  This is a full time, 12 month, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off and access to multiple tuition programs for employees and dependents.  

Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, implement and assess student-facing diversity programming; responsible for Justice Scholars Program, Summer Enrichment Program (SEP), ODI Welcome Back Event, STEP Peer Mentoring, 3 D Series and Multicultural Senior Celebrations and IMPACT Pre-Orientation; collaborate with other student facing or academic departments on university programming, (i.e. MLK Teach-in)  
  • Respond to student concerns that impact retention, including campus climate, microaggressions, incivility; serve as a resource for daily student concerns, directing them to appropriate campus resources; serve on Bias Incident team and assist with processes; serve on Student Success Team; act as mediator between students/RSOs and campus departments when issues arise
  • Leadership and management of office operations; manage the upkeep and reservations for the MC House; supervision of professional and student staff; monitor and maintain ODI operational budget and Summer Enrichment program budget; work with Communications regarding social media that highlights heritage celebrations;; work in collaboration with Office of Student Involvement in support of multicultural student organizations; serve as advisor of 1-3 student RSOs 
  • Serve on University wide committees, including Diversity Advisory Council and other committees as needed;  

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years experience working with diverse college students is required; Master’s preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ related experience;  conflict resolution, crisis management, program development and presentation skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of diverse student populations and best practices for student retention

Salary $54,000 - $59,000, based on experience.
