Assistant Director International Admissions and International Student/Scholar Advisor (ISSA)

This position is responsible for international student recruitment and international student retention that will meet enrollment goals.  This leader will serve as the campus DSO/ARO and maintain compliance with all federal regulations and follow all Department of Homeland Security requirements.  This is a full time, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off and access to multiple tuition scholarship programs for employees and dependents.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute an international student recruitment plan that will meet enrollment goals; process decisions regarding admitting, denying or waitlisting applicants; chairs the International Admissions Committee; communicates with prospective and admitted students from point of application through graduation; communicates and works closely with financial aid office
  • Serve as DSO/ARO for the university’s F and J visa programs; responsible for institutional compliance with the code of federal regulations; maintain appropriate records and files, as well as prepare and distribute required documents and reports on international students, faculty, staff and visitors for various constituents; DSO/ARO duties with SEVIS including issuance of I-20s/DS-2019s; manage semesterly SEVIS registration for all IWU-sponsored students
  • Serve as International Student Advisor; assist students in complying with government regulations concerning their immigration status, visas, passports, insurance coverage, employment authorization, and related matters; referral to campus partners for necessary support; organize multi-day orientation (August and January) including pre-arrival logistics; advise international students on cross-cultural adjustment; maintain knowledge and understanding of federal regulations; manage ongoing reminders and communication of pertinent timelines
  • Serve as International Scholar Advisor; assist guest and scholars in complying with government regulations; serve as resource to faculty, staff and exchange visitors; act as liaison with departments and faculty sponsoring scholars/visitors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1 year related experience with student advising or immigration compliance required, 3 years preferred
  • Knowledge of the SEVIS system or previous experience as a DSO/ARO preferred
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad, or similar experience with foreign nationals in the US; demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds preferred
  • US citizenship or legal permanent residency required to serve as a DSO/ARO

$46-$50k, based on experience
