Associate Professor, School of Nursing
Dr. Susan L. Swanlund received her B.S.N. at Illinois Wesleyan in 1980, her M.S. in nursing at Texas Womans University in 1988 and her Ph.D. in nursing at Saint Louis University in 1998.
Before joining the Illinois Wesleyan faculty in 1995, Dr. Swanlund taught at the Mennonite College of Nursing in Bloomington, where she received the Dr. Kathleen A. Hogan Teaching Excellence Award. She also has experience as a staff nurse at the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis; in the operating room and post-anesthesia recovery room at Brokaw Hospital in Normal and at Baylor University Center in Dallas. She later was operating room supervisor and then director of the Cataract Surgery Center in Dallas.
She has published articles and lectured on topics related to geriatric and cardiovascular nursing.
Honors & Memberships
Dr. Swanlund is a member of the OSF St. Joseph Medical Center Community Board and Sigma Theta Tau International. She also serves on the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation Board and its Continuing Medical Education (CME) Subcommittee.
