Education

Monica Hall received a B.S.N. from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1990. In 2018, she earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she completed a dissertation on self-care management in African Americans with Type 2 Diabetes.

Biography

Prior to joining the faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University, Dr. Hall began her work within the field of nursing as a staff nurse on the medical/surgical unit at Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois. After 2 years she transitioned into the role of Assistant Manager. She then moved to the Chicago suburbs where she began working for a group of cardiologists. In this role she was responsible for performing stress tests, trans-telephonic pacemaker checks and reading Holter monitors. She came back to the area where she became the IMCU Manager at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. After the conclusion of this role, she accepted a new position at Carle Foundation Hospital as a Performance Improvement Facilitator. During her time at Carle, Dr. Hall also worked as a Diabetes Educator where she provided diabetes education to pregnant patients with gestational, type 1 or type 2 diabetes and provided diabetes education to all patients and staff in the acute care setting. In 2006, Dr. Hall began working at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, as a teaching assistant in molecular and cellular biology.  She assumed the role of a teaching associate in 2011 where she instructed undergraduate and graduate students in the medical/surgical clinical setting. During this time, Dr. Hall also taught at Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois, where she taught human anatomy and physiology to undergraduate students. She also worked with first semester nursing students in evidence-based practice nursing research and in the medical/surgical clinical setting while at Parkland Community College.

Honors and Memberships

Dr. Hall is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and she has helped coordinate a research study focusing on the benefits of a Diabetes Care Team in the in-patient setting. Dr. Hall has also been a co-investigator on multiple research studies and she helped develop an insulin drip protocol that is currently being used in the adult non-critical care areas at Carle Foundation Hospital. Dr. Hall is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
