Jazz Ensembles to Perform

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University’s Jazz Lab Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present a concert on Friday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in Presser Hall’s Westbrook Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Emphasizing improvisation, the Jazz Combo is comprised of top jazz players in a small-group setting. This year, the group will feature the unique jazz sounds of the Dave Pell Octet, a popular jazz group from the 1950s based in Los Angeles whose arrangements have recently been published.

Comprised of both music and non-music majors, the Jazz Lab Ensemble performs many styles of jazz music and has appeared on national and international tours. The group will perform works by Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and Horace Silver for Friday’s concert.

Director of Jazz Ensembles and Adjunct Instructor in the School of Music Glenn Wilson, will conduct both ensembles.
