IWSO to Present Concert During Homecoming

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University’s Symphony Orchestra (IWSO) will present a night of Music in Film on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. during Homecoming. The concert will take place at Second Presbyterian Church (404 N Prairie St. Bloomington) and is free and open to the public.

Conducted by Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Music Lev Ivanov, the IWSO will perform a collection of music from various popular films. The group will explore the many outlets and facets of this genre of music, which plays an essential role in films including: Breakfast at Tiffany’s, E.T., Chicago, Cinema Paradiso, Harry Potter, Mission: Impossible, Munich, Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Dark Knight Rises, The Mission and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Comprised of students from a variety of disciplines at Illinois Wesleyan, the IWSO performs works from all musical periods. The group has toured throughout the U.S. and has had the opportunity to work with many acclaimed musicians, including five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano and IWU alumna Dawn Upshaw.
