February 23, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Saturday, March 3, the Illinois Wesleyan Office of Student Activities will bring comedian Rocky Laporte to campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 8 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center (300 E. Beecher St., Bloomington).

A former Chicago truck driver and dock worker, Laporte started his comedy career in 1988. After winning local comedy competitions, as well as The Johnnie Walker National Comedy Competition, he began making appearances on television, including shows such as Cheers and The Tonight Show. Laporte later had his own half hour special on Comedy Central. He can also be seen in the ShowTime special Patriot Act: A Jeffry Ross Home Movie, where he and Drew Carey traveled to Iraq to entertain U.S. troops. Laporte has opened for the likes of Louie Anderson, Tim Allen and the Righteous Brothers, among other entertainers.
