Passionate about health and fitness? Interested in promoting healthy lifestyles and helping others maximize their physical potential, prevent disease or cope with disability? Health promotion and fitness management is a growing field of professionals, increasing in significance in today's society. Illinois Wesleyan's Health Promotion and Fitness Management Major (HPFM) serves as a launching point for careers in the health and fitness industry, and a great foundation for advanced study in high-demand areas such as exercise science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, chiropractic, sports nutrition, biomechanics, athletic training and more.
Future professions could include a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Physical Therapist (PT), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Wellness Director, and others. With coursework in biology, health, and exercise science, our students gain knowledge and competencies related to a variety of health and fitness settings. Our broad-based general curriculum prepares students for success, whether you envision a future as an entrepreneur or pursuing graduate study to become a health care provider.
Whether you're looking to pursue a professional program for medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, occupational/physical therapy or anything else in the healthcare field, Pre-Health Advising is here to help you map a course for your time at IWU to be successful.
Students in the program have the chance to learn from hands-on experiences by working in the Athletic Training Room.
The Pre-Health Club hopes to inform students of the aspects of different specialties in the healthcare field and how to get involved in these fields as an undergraduate student along with tips regarding further education, and the lifestyle of these fields.
