"The University, through its policies, programs and practices, is committed to diversity, social justice and environmental sustainability" – Illinois Wesleyan University Mission Statement
Environmental Studies examines issues that arise from the interaction of human beings with the natural world. Understanding these issues and meeting the challenges they pose requires knowledge from diverse fields and new modes of thinking. At Illinois Wesleyan University we ask our students to put their passion for sustainability to work during their time here, so that they graduate empowered and prepared to make a difference in the world. Our students gain a solid foundation in ecological principles, earth science concepts and scientific causes of today's environmental challenges, as well as the institutions - cultural, political, and economic - and ethical dimensions through which to tackle them.
A unique and innovative travel program brings our students to Vietnam where they explore sustainability issues firsthand, collaborate with Vietnamese peers, and return to campus to complete a related research project in their senior seminar. Read more.
