Senate Committees

Committees are a large part of how Senate keeps up with the ever changing needs on campus. Every committee has at least one executive board member as well as members from the body of the Senate. Certain committees allow for students who are not a voting member in Student Senate to have a position on them. Internal Senate Committees

Each Senator is required to serve on one internal committee, per Student Senate's Bylaws.

  • Advocacy & Awareness Committee: This committee shall be involved in the planning and execution of initiatives developed by the Advocacy & Awareness Commissioner.  Topics shall be related to social justice, mental health, sexual violence prevention, substance abuse, and other topics related to advocacy and awareness.
  • Civic Engagement Committee: This committee shall be involved in the planning and execution of initiatives developed by the Civic Engagement Commissioner.  Topics shall be related to issues surrounding the Bloomington-Normal community, voting, and other issues impacting Illinois Wesleyan University.
  • Diversity & Inclusion Committee: This committee shall be involved in the planning and execution of initiatives developed by the Diversity & Inclusion Commissioner.  Topics shall be related to cultural awareness, diversity, tolerance, inclusivity, and discrimination.
  • Financial Advisory Board: This committee shall be responsible for allocating funds to Registered Student Organizations on campus by following the Student Senate Precedent guidelines.
  • Internal Affairs Committee: This committee, chaired by the Chief of Staff, shall review proposed amendments to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Elections and make recommendations to the General Assembly.  This committee also is responsible for running fair and impartial elections in the best interest of the student body.
  • Sustainability Committee: This committee shall be involved in the planning and execution of initiatives developed by the Sustainability Commissioner.  Topics shall be related to sustainability on campus and potential interior and exterior development projects to Illinois Wesleyan University's campus.

Any Senator can be appointed and serve on one or more of these committees.
