Student Soloists to Perform in Annual Concerto-Aria

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois Wesleyan Symphony Orchestra (IWSO) will host the annual Henry Charles Memorial Concerto-Aria Concert on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church (404 N. Prairie St., Bloomington). The event is free and open to the public.

This concert will feature three Illinois Wesleyan student soloists who were named winners of the School of Music’s Concerto-Aria competition. The soloists include tuba player Dan Drake ’20 (Naperville, Ill.), soprano Elisabeth Williams ’20 (Mercer Island, Wash.) and euphonium player Lindsay Ring ’21 (Bloomington, Ill.).

In addition to the soloist performances, the concert will also include a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.

Founded in 1984, the IWSO is comprised of students from all disciplines. The group, which is directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Large Instrumental Ensembles Lev Ivanov, performs pieces from all musical periods. They have also performed with many esteemed soloists such as Illinois Wesleyan alumna and Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw ’82 and have toured throughout the United States.
