School of Music to Present Jazz Lab and Jazz Combo Performances

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –– The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music’s Jazz Lab and Jazz Combo will perform on Friday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall’s Westbrook Auditorium.

The concert, directed by Adjunct Instructor in the School of Music Glenn Wilson, is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Lab’s members include Abby Kauerauf ’19 playing the vibraphone, Joseluis Martinez ’22 on tenor saxophone, Matt Fritsch ’22 performing bass, Katy Holub ’20 and Emily Schirmacher ’21 on drums, and Chris Callahan ’21, Minji Will ’19 and Monica Shen ’20 on piano.

The Jazz Combo’s members include Amy Clapp ’19 on tenor saxophone, Alex Huebner ’21 on trumpet, Patrick Ward ’20 on trombone, Paul Johnson ’19 on piano, Mitch Galgan ’19 on bass and Jonah Klima ’21 on drums.

The songs to be performed by the Jazz Lab include Oleo, St. Thomas and Doxy by Sonny Rollins, Cold Duck Time by Eddie Harris, Bemsha Swing by Thelonius Monk, and So What by Miles Davis.

The Jazz Combo will perform This is For Albert, Hammer Head, Children of the Night, and One by One by Wayne Shorter, Crisis by Freddie Hubbard and a Mitch Galgan Original.

Director of Jazz Ensembles Glenn Wilson has been a professional jazz saxophonist for more than 45 years. Wilson’s non-profit, Further Jazz, Inc., produces jazz events in Illinois and beyond and is dedicated to fostering, promoting and advancing greater knowledge, understanding and appreciation of jazz music.
