Pianist Jeffrey Brown to Perform Guest Recital

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –– The School of Music will host pianist Jeffrey Brown for a guest recital on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Presser Hall’s Westbrook Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Brown is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he earned a Performer’s Certificate, a Master of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts. Currently, Brown is Professor of Piano and Interim Director of the School of Music at Western Illinois University.

Brown has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia as a solo recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestras. His awards and recognitions include a prizewinner in the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, the Iowa International Piano Competition, the Eastman Concerto Competition, and the Kneisel German Lieder Competition, and he is a recipient of the Artist Presentation Society Award of St. Louis.

Brown is also an active member of the Music Teachers National Association. He has presented masterclasses and lectures at universities and conservatories throughout the United States and currently serves as the National Coordinator for the MTNA Chamber Music Competitions.

At Wednesday’s recital, Brown will perform Ich ruf zu dir, BWV 639 and Chaconne in D Minor by J. S. Bach, arr. Ferruccio Busoni, Etude No. 17 by Philip Glass, Etude No. 2 "Quiet Music" by Nico Muhly, Etude No. 2 by Whitney Ashe, Piano Sonata I.X.1905 "From the Street" by Leo Janček ( The Presentiment and The Death) , and Transcriptions of Songs for Voice and Piano ( Where Beauty Dwells, Op. 21 No. 7, Do Not Grieve, Op. 14 No. 8 and In the Silent Night, Op. 4 No. 3 ) by Sergei Rachmaninoff, arr. Earl Wild.
