IWU to Host Multicultural Academic Achievement Recognition Ceremony

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –– Illinois Wesleyan University, in collaboration with the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Educational Activity Club, will host the 28th annual Multicultural Academic Achievement Recognition Ceremony on Monday, July 15 at the Shirk Athletic Center (302 E. Emerson St., Bloomington).

Registration and a reception will be held from 5:30 to 6:15p.m., followed by the awards ceremony from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Attendance at the ceremony is by invitation only.

The event features guest speaker Carla Barnes, with the McLean County Office of Public Defenders, and soloist Madyson McSwain from Bloomington High School. Acting Illinois Wesleyan President Richard Wilson will greet and congratulate the students as well as Barbara Malone, Executive Director of Neighbor-to-Neighbor Educational Activity Club; Dr. Barry Reilly, Superintendent of District 87 schools; Dr. Mark Daniels, Superintendent of Unit 5 schools; James Shaw, retired Principal of Fairview Elementary School; and Officer John Fermon, Public Affairs Office with the Bloomington Police Department.

The ceremony recognizes over 900 Bloomington-Normal multicultural youth in the fifth through 12th grades who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
