Composition Concert To Feature Student Works

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University’s student composition concert will showcase original music pieces by music composition major Chris Callahan ’21 (Bloomington, Illinois) and English-Writing major Charlie Franz ’19 (Wilmette, Illinois). The concert will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. in Presser Hall’s Westbrook Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

“Equanimity,” composed by Callahan, will explore the balance of tonal and atonal styles using a unique, rigid form across three movements.

Franz’s two-part piece “Midwestern Waters Suite” was inspired by two bodies of water. The first part, “Pavane: Long Lake,” is based on a lake in Phelps, Wisconsin, near his family’s cabin. The second part is called “Vermillion River,” inspired by Franz’s observations while driving along the Vermillion River in Pontiac, Illinois.
