Opera Theatre To Present Broadway Music Review

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. —The Illinois Wesleyan University Opera Theatre will showcase a Broadway musical review on Saturday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m. at Westbrook Auditorium in Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The performances are free and open to the public.

The production will highlight music by composer David Shire and lyricist Richard Maltby Jr., most famous for their collaboration on Tony-nominated Broadway shows “Baby” and “Big.” The performance includes the vocal talents of: Brigid Broderick ’19, Spenser Burbach ’21, Claire Challacombe ’20, Alex Rasmussen and Kristian Avis-Rouse ’20. Vocal coach Andrew Voelker is the production’s music director and pianist, and Rachel LaPorte serves as choreographer.

The Opera Theatre, directed by visiting professor of music Robert Mangialardi, provides auditioning students in the School of Music with the unique opportunity to develop a class performance of a one-act musical production or a full-length operatic work over the course of the spring semester.
