Visiting Assistant Professors of Physics

The Physics Department of Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) seeks to fill two Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) positions beginning in August 2023. (Classes start August 28, 2023.)

Our department prides itself on high quality teaching at all levels, offering a broad set of upper level courses that contain a laboratory component, and a strong emphasis on collaborative research between faculty and students.

Earlier this year, the Illinois Wesleyan University Physics Department received an   Improving Undergraduate Physics Education Award from the American Physical Society (APS). The American Institute of Physics (AIP) lists our department as a top producer of graduates with bachelor's degrees in physics.

We seek candidates with enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment and a genuine commitment to effective instruction in both lecture and laboratory settings, at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.

Each of the selected candidates will teach 6 courses distributed across Fall, Spring, and May terms. The current faculty in the department are very flexible about what courses they teach. So, we have the ability to decide the specific course load of the VAPs in consultation with the selected candidates.

At the time of the application, the candidate must be legally able to accept work in the United States . A Ph.D. either in physics or a closely related field by August 2023 is preferred.

Please submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the contact information for two references by email to cvolz@iwu.edu . In your letter of application, please include a short statement about your teaching, including approaches to ensuring an atmosphere that is respectful of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
