Director, Office of Residential Life

This position is responsible for providing a unified vision and execution of the residential student experience at Illinois Wesleyan University. This essential position coordinates the vast reach of experiences of student belonging and success as well as works toward a safe campus environment for all living and interacting in these spaces. This is a full time, 12 month, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off and access to multiple tuition programs for employees and dependents.  

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily and yearly cycles of the residential life program; develop, promote, and assess a residential, co-curricular programming model that accentuates and complements classroom learning; provide experiences for social and academic belonging in residential spaces via the 45 student staff members across the 15 residence halls and apartments; communicate successes and challenges of residential program to students, prospective students, families, and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate and complete all housing operations for 1400 bed capacity; ensure timely execution of housing selection and roommate assignment processes; communicate with stakeholders; complete occupancy management exercises, forecasting upcoming academic terms; provide leadership for any residential building upgrades, renovations or new construction; communicate with Physical Plant, Campus Safety, and other stakeholders about ongoing safety, maintenance and emergency issues
  • Supervision for 5 professional and 60 student staff members; hire, train, supervise and evaluate reporting staff members; oversee development and execution of required training for student staff
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure student success; serve on Student Success Team, university Retention Task Force, and other relevant committees as appropriate to connect the lived student experience to other aspects of campus life; maintain case manager notes in Guardian; facilitate university partnerships involving residential students with faculty and community stakeholders
  • Prepare and respond to campus-wide emergency needs; serve as member of University Emergency Response Team; serve in on-call duty rotation; assist as needed with investigations related to individual and group student conduct, as well as alleged Title IX violations

 

Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in related field of study required; Higher Education Administration, Student Development or Counseling. Bachelor’s degree plus eight years of experience may substitute for required Master’s
  • Five years of related experience; student development theories, occupancy management, legal concepts and laws related to student housing
  • Position serves in on-call rotation for emergencies outside of normal business hours

Salary $57000-$62000, based on experience.
