Assistant Director of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion

Illinois Wesleyan University’s Division of Student Affairs invites applications for the position of Assistant Director in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI).  The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs by supporting MALANA (multi-racial, African American, Latino/a, Asian, Native American), LGBQ, TGNC, First Generation and Women at Illinois Wesleyan by helping to develop and sustain a welcoming and inclusive campus where all community members appreciate and respect diversity.  Since 2008, IWU has increased our diverse student population to 25% students of color with Latino/Latina students representing our largest growth area.  We are looking for a dynamic professional who can support students, especially Latino/Latina students, and provide leadership for a variety of campus diversity initiatives.

Primary Duties :

  • Works under the general direction of the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to develop, coordinate, and facilitate programs and services that support the University’s core value of diversity
  • Assists in developing and coordinating the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) and MALANA Pre-Orientation.  SEP is a competitive leadership and skills development program for MALANA students. MALANA Pre-Orientation is a 3-day orientation program that serves to aide MALANA students’ transition to the IWU campus community 
  • Works with multicultural registered student organizations in their programmatic planning and advocacy efforts throughout the academic year
  • Supervises ODI’s student aides; coordinates ODI’s social media efforts; updates ODI’s webpage; develops and coordinates diversity and multicultural programming; develops and facilitates diversity and inclusion presentations for RA training and other student leadership development activities; and participation on university committees as assigned
  • Weekend and evening commitments will be required


  • A master’s degree in student affairs or applicable field is preferred, with knowledge of student development and identity theory 
  • Two to four years of diversity and inclusion or multicultural affairs experience is highly desired
  • The ideal candidate will be a strong programmer/event planner and draw from a working knowledge of student organizational      advisement and leadership development
  • Proficiency in Spanish is not required but would be valued
  • Remuneration is based on education and experience and includes benefit package. This is a 12-month position.

Illinois Wesleyan is an elite private co-educational university with an enrollment of about 1,800 and a student/faculty ratio of 11 to 1.  The University’s 80 acre campus consists of the College of Liberal Arts, with 17 academic departments; the College of Fine Arts, comprising professional Schools of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts; and the School of Nursing.
