Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

Illinois Wesleyan University and the Ames School of Art and Design & Design invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. This position is a one-year appointment beginning August 1, 2023. We are seeking a design educator with expertise in visual problem solving and a thorough understanding of the role of design in contemporary society. The successful candidate will teach design fundamentals, typography, image making, ideation strategies and/or relevant content based on expertise. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to inspire students conceptually, aesthetically, and technically. Candidates with specialization in areas such as: identity systems, information design, product design, packaging, animation, motion, game design, or industrial design are encouraged to apply.

The Ames School of Art and Design and Design & Design, one of IWU’s four professional schools, offers the BFA, BA, and minor in Graphic Design, and Studio Art, and a minor in Art History. The School of Art boasts two galleries, Macintosh computer lab, and outstanding facilities for drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and glass. The on-site laser cutters, 3D printers, and vacuum former support all areas within the School. Additionally, the IDEA Center, provides the space and technology for all students on campus to create and innovate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree with undergraduate degree in graphic design
  • College-level teaching experience (Teaching Assistant experience acceptable)
  • Demonstrable skills in oral and written communications
  • Ability to foster an active and engaged learning environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

MFA, MGD, MDes or equivalent in related field
Evidence of creative/scholarly activity

 

Responsibilities

Teach six courses annually as assigned by the Director
Hold weekly office hours
Participate in School of Art & Design faculty meetings
