About Illinois Wesleyan
Illinois Wesleyan University is an independent, residential liberal arts university,
founded in 1850 and located in Bloomington, Illinois. Enrollment is exclusively undergraduate
with approximately 1,900 students from 32 states and 24 countries.
The University is highly selective, offering 81 majors, minors and programs in a unique
curriculum that combines the liberal arts and sciences with professional schools of
art, music, theatre and nursing. Its 171 faculty are superb teachers and active scholars,
with 17 holding endowed positions. Consistently ranked in the top tier of national
liberal arts colleges by major publications and guidebooks, Illinois Wesleyan is a
member of the Annapolis Group, a consortium of the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions.
The Illinois Wesleyan campus is located in a residential neighborhood a few blocks
north of downtown Bloomington, a city of approximately 80,000. Bloomington and its
twin-city Normal sit along Interstate 55 approximately 2 hours south of Chicago. Air
service is provided by a number of major airlines that fly into the Central Illinois
Regional Airport (BMI), which is approximately five miles east of campus. Amtrak provides
service into Uptown Normal, about 2 miles north of the University.
