To the Class of 2018 and their families

I am pleased to report that Illinois Wesleyan University will celebrate Commencement on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the close of our 168th year. Although the ceremony is a few months away, I am writing to provide some information to help you plan for this important event. This information will also be posted on the Commencement website:

Weather permitting, the procession of graduates and faculty will begin at 12:45 p.m. on the Eckley Quadrangle, with the ceremony scheduled for 1 00 p.m. on the Kemp Commencement Plaza in front of State Farm Hall. The ceremony typically lasts for about two hours and will be followed by a reception to honor the graduates and their families. Faculty members will look forward to greeting you on the Quad.

The Commencement ceremony is held outdoors even in a light rain or cool temperatures, and I encourage you to prepare appropriately so that you will be comfortable for the day. However, in the event of heavy rains or severe weather alerts, we will relocate the ceremony and reception indoors to the Shirk Center on campus. We will make every attempt to provide timely notice, should the eventuality arise.

The University is pleased to provide the caps and gowns that graduates wear at both Commencement and the Honors Convocation on April 11, 2018. Ordering was available onsite on January 23 and 24, and online ordering will also be available until March 6th using this link: Students who have conflicts or are studying off-campus should order their academic regalia online or contact the IWU Bookstore to make other arrangements before March 6. Delivery of the cap and gown orders will occur on April 9 and 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center.

I hope this final year for the IWU Class of 2018 is filled with joy and achievement. I look forward to greeting you at Commencement.

With best regards,

Eric Jensen
