We are pleased to provide you with information about the various activities that celebrate your upcoming graduation from Illinois Wesleyan.  Please read carefully, since these events are an important part of your graduation. Most information and updates will also be posted on the Commencement website

The academic regalia (cap, gown, and hood) that you have ordered will be distributed on Monday, April 7 and Tuesday, April 8 from 10 am until 3 pm in the Hansen Student Center.  Regalia must be worn for the Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 9 and the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 4 (see below for information on those events). Some organizations provide Honors Cords for members and your organization should provide information to you if they do so.

AFTER APRIL 8, your order will be held at the Bookstore in the Hansen Student Center and you may pick it up during their business hours. If those times do not meet your schedule, please contact the Bookstore for other arrangements (309-556-3059). The last opportunity to pick up your regalia before the ceremony is on Sunday, May 4 at 10 am at the Bookstore.

You have received the invitation to a formal dinner in honor of your graduation on Tuesday, April 8 at 6 pm in the Young Main Lounge of Memorial Center. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you to reminisce with classmates as you are welcomed into the IWU Alumni Association, which will provide an Alumni T-Shirt to all attendees.

The 2014 Honors Convocation is at 11 am on Wednesday, April 9 in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.  The Convocation is dedicated especially to the Class of 2014 and also to all students who have earned scholastic and activity honors and honor society membership.  Dr. Rebecca Roesner, professor of chemistry and recipient of the 2014 Kemp Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, will be the keynote speaker with your class president, Hannah Smith, presiding.

All members of the senior class are invited and encouraged to participate in the Convocation processional and recessional, wearing full academic regalia (with tassels worn on the right side).  Please meet in the Music Building, room 161, before 10:45 a.m. where Faculty Marshals will organize you for the processional to Westbrook Auditorium.  There is no specific order for the processional line up; you may walk in whatever order you wish.  During the Convocation Invocation, it is traditional that men remove their caps.

You and your family received a Commencement communication on or about March 27 which provided much information and is also posted on the IWU website at   You will receive an additional email with more specifics about the Commencement Ceremony itself on or about April 29, and it will also be posted on the website.

PLEASE NOTE:  Commencement is held outdoors even in light rain or cool temperatures, so you should prepare and dress accordingly.

If we relocate to the Shirk Center because of heavy rain or severe weather alerts, there is very limited seating available for your family and guests. Chair seating for Graduates and Faculty is located on the floor of the Performance Arena along with some wheel-chair accessible seating, leaving only bleacher seating for guests.  To ensure that each Graduate can have family or friends in attendance, we provided each graduate's family with FOUR tickets for reserved seating in the Shirk Performance Arena.  Those tickets were mailed to the family on or about March 27.  We regret that extra reserved tickets for an indoor ceremony are not available, but it is most fair to allow each Graduate to have some family and friends in attendance rather than a first-come seating arrangement, wherein some families could be excluded entirely.  Additional information regarding other indoor seating venues and the live Webcast (rain or shine) is provided in the March Commencement mailing and on the website.

As one of the final steps towards graduation, we ask that you take 10 minutes and complete the Graduating Student Survey.  This survey is essential to Illinois Wesleyan in learning about your employment placement and/or graduate and professional school admissions.
