Graduating Student Survey
We are pleased to provide you with information about the various activities that celebrate
your upcoming graduation from Illinois Wesleyan. Please read carefully, since these
events are an important part of your graduation. Most information and updates will
also be posted on the Commencement Web site https://www.iwu.edu/commencement/
Academic Regalia---distributed on April 12 and 13
The academic regalia (cap, gown, and hood) that you have ordered will be distributed
on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13 from 10 am until 3 pm in the Hansen Student
Center. Regalia must be worn for the Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 14 and
Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 2 (see below for information on those events).
Some organizations provide Honors Cords for members and your organization should provide
information to you if they do so.
AFTER APRIL 13, your order will be held at the Bookstore in the Hansen Student Center
and you may pick it up during their business hours. If those times do not meet your
schedule, please contact the Bookstore for other arrangements (309-556-3059). The
last opportunity to pick up your regalia before the ceremony is on Sunday, May 2 at
10 am at the Bookstore.
Senior Class Dinner---April 13
You have received the invitation to a formal dinner in honor of your graduation on
Tuesday, April 13 at 6 pm in the Young Main Lounge of Memorial Center. This event
is a wonderful opportunity for you to reminisce with classmates, faculty, and staff
as you are welcomed into the IWU Alumni Association, which will provide an Alumni
T-Shirt to all attendees.
Honors Convocation---April 14
The 2010 Honors Convocation is at 11 am on Wednesday, April 14 in Westbrook Auditorium
of Presser Hall. The Convocation is dedicated especially to the Class of 2010 and
also to all students who have earned scholastic and activity honors and honor society
membership. Dr. Wes Chapman, associate professor of English and recipient of the
2010 Kemp Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, will be the keynote speaker with
your class president, Alessandra Bollero, presiding.
All members of the senior class are invited and encouraged to participate in the Convocation
processional and recessional, wearing full academic regalia (with tassels worn on
the right side). Please meet in the Music Building, room 161, before 10:45 a.m. where
Faculty Marshals will organize you for the processional to Westbrook Auditorium.
There is no specific order for the processional line up; you may walk in whatever
order you wish. During the Convocation Invocation and Benediction, it is traditional
that men remove their caps.
Commencement Information---for May 2 Ceremony
You and your family have received Commencement communications that provide much information
and which can also be viewed on the IWU Web site at
An additional e-mail with more specifics about the Commencement Ceremony itself will
be sent to you on or about April 28 and also be posted on the Web site.
PLEASE NOTE: Commencement is held outdoors even in light rain or cool temperatures,
so you should prepare and dress accordingly.
If we relocate to the Shirk Center because of heavy rain or severe weather alerts,
there is very limited seating available for your family and guests. Chair seating
for Graduates and Faculty is located on the floor of the Performance Arena along with
some wheel-chair accessible seating, leaving bleacher seating for guests. To ensure
that each Graduate can have family or friends in attendance, we have provided each
graduate's family with FOUR tickets for reserved seating in the Performance Arena.
Those tickets were sent to the family in the Commencement mailing dated March 24,
2010. We regret that we cannot provide extra tickets, but it is most fair to allow
each Graduate to have some family and friends in attendance at the indoor ceremony
rather than a first-come seating arrangement wherein some families would be excluded
entirely. Additional information regarding unreserved seating in the Performance
Arena and other indoor seating venues is provided in the Commencement mailing and
on the Web site.
2010 IWU Graduating Student Survey
As part of your final requirements towards graduation, we ask that you take 10 minutes
and complete the Graduating Student Survey. This survey is essential to Illinois
Wesleyan in learning about your employment placement and/or graduate and professional
school admissions. Please access the survey using the following link and contact
