We are pleased to provide you with information about the various activities that celebrate your upcoming graduation from Illinois Wesleyan.  Please read carefully, since these events are an important part of your graduation. Most information and updates will also be posted on the Commencement Web site

*** Academic Regalia ---distributed on April 7 and 8

Your regalia (cap, gown, and hood) will be distributed on Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8 from 10 am until 3 pm in the Hansen Student Center.  The Jostens representative can still take on-line orders for announcements and class rings (see the Commencement Web site).  Some organizations provide Honors Cords for members and your organization should provide information to you if they do so.

AFTER APRIL 8, your order will be held at the Bookstore in the Hansen Student Center and you may pick it up during their business hours, which are 8-6 Monday-Thursday, 8-5 Friday, and 10-5 Saturday. If none of those times meet your schedule, please contact the Bookstore for other arrangements (309-556-3059). The last opportunity to pick up your regalia before the ceremony is on Sunday, May 3 at 10 am at the Bookstore.

Regalia must be worn for the Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 15 and Commencement on Sunday, May 3 (see below for information on those events).

***Senior Class Dinner---April 14

You have received the invitation to a formal dinner in honor of your graduation on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 pm in the Young Main Lounge of Memorial Center. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you to reminisce with classmates, faculty, and staff as you are welcomed into the IWU Alumni Association, which will provide an Alumni T-Shirt to all attendees.  Be sure to RSVP at

***Honors Convocation---April 15

The 2009 Honors Convocation is at 11 am on Wednesday, April 15 in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.  The Convocation is dedicated especially to the Class of 2009 and also to all students who have earned scholastic and activity honors and honor society membership.  Professor Jonathan Dey, the Miner Linnaeus Sherff Professor of Botany and recipient of the 2009 Award for Teaching Excellence, will be the keynote speaker with your class president, Carissa Nemmers, presiding.

All members of the senior class are invited and encouraged to participate in the Convocation processional and recessional, wearing full academic regalia (with tassels worn on the right side).  Please meet in the Music Building, room 161, at 10:45 a.m. where Faculty Marshals will organize you for the processional to Westbrook Auditorium.  There is no specific order for the processional line up; you may walk in whatever order you wish.  During the Convocation Invocation and Benediction, it is traditional that men remove their caps.

***Commencement Information---for May 3 Ceremony

You and your family have received Commencement communications that provide much information and which can also be reviewed on the IWU Web site at

An additional e-mail with more specifics about the Commencement ceremony itself will be sent to you on or about April 29 and also be posted on the Web site.

PLEASE NOTE:  Commencement is held outdoors even in light rain or cool temperatures, so you should prepare and dress accordingly.

If we relocate to the Shirk Center because of heavy rain or severe weather alerts, there is very limited seating available for your family and guests. Chair seating for Graduates and Faculty is located on the floor of the Performance Arena along with some handicapped-accessible seating, leaving bleacher seating for guests.  To ensure that each Graduate can have family or friends in attendance, we provide each graduate's family with FOUR tickets for reserved seating in the Performance Arena.  Those tickets were sent to the family in the Commencement mailing mentioned above.  We regret that we cannot provide extra tickets, but it is most fair to allow each Graduate to have some family and friends in attendance at the indoor ceremony rather than a first-come seating arrangement wherein some families would be excluded entirely.  Additional information regarding unreserved seating in the Performance Arena and other indoor seating venues is provided in the Commencement mailing and on the Web site.

***2009 IWU Graduating Student Survey

As part of your final requirements towards graduation, we ask that you take 10 minutes and complete the Graduating Student Survey.  This survey is essential to Illinois Wesleyan in learning about your employment placement and/or graduate and professional school admissions.  Please access the survey using the following link and contact if you have questions:
