To the Class of 2008 and their Families:
I am pleased to report that Illinois Wesleyan University will celebrate Commencement on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the close of its 158th Year. Although the ceremony is several months away, we thought it would be useful to provide you with some information to help you plan for this important event.
The processional of graduates and faculty will begin at 12:45 p.m. on the Eckley Quadrangle, with the ceremony scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Our traditional strawberries and scones reception to honor the graduates and their families will occur immediately following the ceremony. Faculty members will look forward to greeting you on the Quad.
The ceremony is outdoors even in a light rain or cool temperatures and we encourage you to prepare appropriately. In the event of heavy rains or weather alerts, we will relocate the ceremony and reception to the Shirk Center on campus. Because indoor seating is quite limited, we will distribute four tickets for reserved seating in the Shirk Center Performance Arena to the family of each graduating senior. We will also broadcast a remote simulcast of the ceremony at three locations—the Shirk practice gym, the Hansen Student Center, and the Memorial Center. Indoor seating is available at 11:00 a.m.
The University is pleased to provide caps and gowns, at no charge, for graduates to wear at the Commencement ceremony and also at the University’s Honors Convocation on April 16, 2008. Graduating seniors may place orders for caps and gowns on January 23 and 24, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center. Vendors will be on site if graduates wish to purchase personalized announcements and class rings. All seniors are encouraged to reconfirm their graduation information, including degree, with the Registrar's Office prior to the January order dates. Delivery of these orders will occur on April 1 and 2, 2008. Students who have conflicts on any of these dates or are studying off campus should contact the Illinois Wesleyan Bookstore to make other arrangements.
We will post Commencement updates on our web site at www.iwu.edu/commencement and also mail information in April, which will include the tickets required for reserved seating at an indoor ceremony, if necessary.
I hope this final year for the IWU Class of 2008 is filled with joy and achievement. I look forward to seeing you all at the Commencement ceremony on May 4.
