To the Class of 2007 and their Families:
I am pleased to report that Illinois Wesleyan University will celebrate Commencement
on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the close of its 157th Year. Although the ceremony is several
months away, we thought it would be useful to provide you with some information to
help you plan for this important event.
The processional of graduates and faculty will begin at 12:45 p.m. with the ceremony
scheduled for 1:00 p.m. If the weather cooperates, Commencement will be held on the
Eckley Quadrangle. If heavy rain or weather alerts occur on Commencement day, our
usual practice has been to move the ceremony indoors to the Shirk Center and utilize
a ticket system that provides seating for only four guests per graduate. We also
arrange remote viewing locations in other campus buildings for guests unable to get
tickets. This situation is not ideal, and for that reason we have begun to explore
other indoor sites in Bloomington/Normal that are large enough to accommodate everyone
who might want to attend. Once we have more information, we plan to consult with
the senior class about location preference if the ceremony must be moved inside.
As we finalize the planning in the next few weeks, we will notify you of any location
changes and also post information on our Commencement web site.
The University is pleased to provide caps and gowns, at no charge, for graduates to
wear at the Commencement ceremony and also at the University’s Honors Convocation
on April 18, 2007. Graduating seniors may place orders for caps and gowns on January
30 and 31, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center. Vendors
will be on site if graduates wish to purchase personalized announcements and class
rings. All seniors are encouraged to reconfirm their graduation information, including
degree, with the Registrar's Office prior to the January order dates. Delivery of
these orders will occur on April 4 and 5, 2007. Students who have conflicts on any
of these dates or are studying off campus should contact the Illinois Wesleyan Bookstore
to make other arrangements.
In early spring we will send additional information about Commencement and continue
posting information on our web site at www.iwu.edu/commencement. The tickets required for reserved seating at an indoor ceremony (if necessary)
will be mailed to the families of graduates at that time.
I hope this final year for the IWU Class of '07 is filled with joy and achievement.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Commencement ceremony on May 6.
