To the Class of 2006 and their Families:
I am pleased to report that Illinois Wesleyan University will celebrate Commencement on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the close of its 156th Year. Although the ceremony is several months away, we thought it would be useful to provide you with some information to help you plan for this important event.
The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the Eckley Quadrangle. The processional of graduates and faculty will begin at 12:45 p.m. Following the ceremony, we will host another tradition--our strawberries and scones reception to honor the graduates and their families.
The ceremony is outdoors even in a light rain or cool temperatures. In the event of heavy rains or weather alerts, we will relocate the ceremony and reception to the Shirk Center on campus. Because indoor seating is quite limited, we will distribute four tickets for reserved seating in the Shirk Center Performance Arena to the family of each graduating senior. Unreserved seating will be available in the adjacent practice gym and the Hansen Student Center, where a remote simulcast of the ceremony will be broadcast. All indoor seating may begin at 11:00 a.m.
The University is pleased to provide caps and gowns, at no charge, for graduates to wear at the Commencement ceremony and also at the University’s Honors Day Convocation on April 12, 2006. Through the generosity of the Illinois Wesleyan Alumni Association, students will receive 25 complimentary personalized commencement announcements and may purchase additional announcements if they wish.
Graduating seniors may place orders for caps, gowns, and announcements on January 19 or 20, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center. If students have conflicts on those dates or are studying off campus, we ask that they contact the Illinois Wesleyan Bookstore in advance to make other arrangements. All seniors are encouraged to reconfirm their graduation information, including degree, with the Registrar's Office prior to the January order dates. Delivery of these orders will occur on April 3 and 4, 2006.
In early spring we will send additional information about Commencement and continue posting information on our web site at www.iwu.edu/commencement. The tickets required for reserved seating at an indoor ceremony will be mailed to the families of graduates at that time.
I hope this final year for the IWU Class of '06 is filled with joy and achievement. I look forward to seeing you all at the Commencement ceremony on April 30.
