March 31, 2006

To the Class of 2006 and their Families:

You are cordially invited to attend the Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2006 to be held Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.  We ask that guests be seated by 12:15 p.m. so that the procession of graduates and faculty can begin at 12:40 p.m.  Chair seating for the traditional outdoor ceremony is on the lawn of the Eckley Quadrangle.

Our alumni speaker is Michael A. Mason, who currently serves as Acting Executive Assistant Director for Administration at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C.  A 1980 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in accounting, Mr. Mason was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps on graduation day and five years later was sworn in as a Special Agent of the FBI.  His career has included serving as an undercover narcotics agent, investigating public corruption and white collar crime matters, and managing the background investigations of all presidential appointees.  His 2003 appointment as assistant director overseeing the Washington Field Office put him in charge of some of the most important cases facing the bureau, including anthrax and ricin investigations, cyber-crime, and health care and government fraud.  In 2004 he was the recipient of a Presidential Rank Award as a Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service.  His experiences and perspective on public service should be of interest to the graduates of 2006.

The Commencement ceremony is outdoors, even in a light rain and cool temperatures, so please plan accordingly.  In the event of heavy rains or weather alerts, we will relocate the ceremony and reception to the Shirk Center.  Because indoor seating is quite limited, we are enclosing tickets for reserved seating in the Shirk Center Performance Arena with this mailing in the envelopes addressed to the families of the graduates.  Please review the enclosed brochure and view our web site www.iwu.edu/commencement for updated Commencement information along the way, including a special Senior Class Talent show and other activities that are under consideration for the weekend.

Following the two-hour ceremony, please join us for a reception in tents on the Quad or in the Shirk Center Activity Area.  The faculty and staff who guided your students over the past few years will greet you and join in celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2006.  I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Richard F. Wilson

President
