Assistant Director of Residential Life

This position provides oversight for the operational function of campus housing. This position ensures efficient housing processes, fiscal responsibility, and high-quality residential facilities that support student success and institutional goals. By managing assignments, occupancy management, systems administration, policy implementation, and cross-campus partnerships, the Assistant Director fosters a seamless and student-centered housing experience. The role contributes directly to recruitment, retention, and overall student satisfaction by ensuring that residential operations are reliable, responsive and aligned with the institution's mission.  A This is a full time, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off, and access to multiple tuition programs for employees and dependents.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enact all housing and dining assignments and billing processes for Illinois Wesleyan University; design, implement and communicate comprehensive housing and dining processes for 500+ incoming and 1100 returning students, as the primary user for housing assignments software (currently THD by Adirondack); oversee seven distinct housing application types; assign 100 IWU-owned bed spaces and ensured billing accuracy across four room types; manage housing billing and meal plan billing
  • Create and maintain building electronic access procedures for all of Illinois Wesleyan University; create and maintain electronic access procedures for all IWU housing buildings, ensuring secure and efficient access; program and troubleshoot access-control software; collaborate with the Office of Campus Safety, ITS and Physical Plant to maintain continuous operation of building access hardware and ensure compliance with campus security standards; serve as access control liaison with CBORD vendor to resolve system issues and implement timely technical solutions
  • Maintain residential facilities and key access; maintain residential facilities and manage key access, ensuring secure functional, and well-organized living environment for students; manage approximately 3000 hard keys for all student residents and staff, ensuring compliance with the Key Policy; coordinate with Physical Plant on key core changes, overseeing the distribution of new keys, collection of returned keys, and billing for lost keys to ensure accountability and maintain campus security
  • Campus Collaboration & Strategic Initiatives; partner with campus departments to implement operational improvements, enhance student experiences, and ensure compliance; lead strategic initiatives to streamline housing operations, improve residential life processes, and support campus-wide goals in recruitment, retention, and student success
  • Administrative Compliance & Fiscal Oversight; prepare and maintain documentation related to housing assignments, appeals, audits, and re-evaluations; monitor fiscal impacts of housing and dining decisions; assist with budget tracking and operational forecasting as assigned; trained staff on key processing in the housing management software, including pulling, issuing, and securely storing keys to ensure compliance; train colleagues on the THD/Adirondac and CSGold/CBORD software; act as the primary liaison for vendors with direct student engagement

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preference for Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs or Counseling
  • Minimum of three years’ progressively higher education experience in housing, residential life, or facilities on a college campus
  • Knowledge of housing management software and student information systems
  • Serve in on-call rotation, responding promptly to student emergencies and ensuring resident safety

$45k-$53k, based on experience
