BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— The Illinois Wesleyan University Office of Student Activities will kick off its fall lineup of entertainment with a performance by the hip-hop duo known as BEDROC on Friday, Sept. 6. The event, which is free of charge, will take place at 8 p.m. at Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington).

In 2009, artists Mike “Brown” Brownyard  and Marcel “ML” McCollough formed BEDROC in their dorm room at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. Since then, they have created mix tapes and videos that they promote via social media sites. Currently, the group has over 8,000 Twitter followers and over 9,000 fans on their Facebook page.

Producer and musical director, Steve Basil formed a band to back up BEDROC’s live performances. The group’s 2011 spring tour was named after their sophomore mixtape “Bored of Education,” which distributed over 10,000 hard copies and received 5,000 Internet downloads. The duo has opened for artists such as Sean Garrett, and has sold out shows with Mac Miller, Sam Adams, Chiddy Bang, Mike Posner, Machine Gun Kelly and Wale.

Since 2012, BEDROC has been booking shows nationally, and they released their third project, “Dreams High” in February.
