Office of Communications Staff

Matt Kurz was named vice president for communications at Illinois Wesleyan in 2006.

Kurz provides leadership for communications from the President's Office, Board of Trustees, Advancement and Admissions. He directs Illinois Wesleyan's identity and visibility programs, serves as the University spokesperson and manages crisis communications. Kurz is a member of the President's Cabinet, Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee, Advancement Working Group, Web Advisory Group and provides communications leadership for the Transforming Lives campaign.

Ann Aubry is responsible for content on the University website and social media channels. She produces electronic newsletters for internal and external audiences and manages the University's internal e-communications.

Aubry joined Illinois Wesleyan in 2002.

Kim Hill handles news coverage involving the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Nursing, assists with communications for the offices of Alumni and Advancement and contributes articles to the Illinois Wesleyan University Magazine.

Tim Obermiller joined Illinois Wesleyan as editor of Illinois Wesleyan University Magazine in 1997.

Under his editorship, the magazine has won Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) regional awards for most improved periodical (2005) and best institutional/alumni magazine (2006).

A 1976 Illinois Wesleyan graduate, Stew Salowitz has been the school's Sports Information Director since November 1988.

He manages all publicity, media relations, news and online information for IWU's 18 varsity sports.

Susan Sombeck oversees the University's publications, printing and copying, graphic design and mailing services.

Sharlyn (Sherry) J. Wallace manages University media relations, copy editing and photography. She directs news coverage regarding the College of Fine Arts, The Ames Library, Student Affairs, student news and campus events.

Wallace came to Illinois Wesleyan University in 1972.
