llinois Wesleyan’s School of Art & Design offers two art degrees. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is the professional degree for the visual arts and the field of graphic design and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) works well for students seeking to double major.

Minors

We offer three minors available to all students across campus to support their major.

 

The Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

The Juried Student Art Exhibition takes place every Spring Semester. All art majors are required to submit three works of art. IWU presents numerous awards every year, including The Gallery Award and Faculty Selection Award, both chosen by the School of Art & Design faculty; Director's Award; President's Award, a cash award sponsored by the President; Mayo Alumni Award, a purchase prize; Dyke Alumni Award; National Residence Hall Honorary "Hall of The Year" purchase prize award; Memorial Center Purchase Prize, and the Sipich Alumni Award.  gallery exhibit

Following the Awards Ceremony, senior BFA students give an oral presentation on their project for the Senior Show on display in the Merwin & Wakeley galleries, as part of the University-wide John Wesley Powell Student Research Conference

Honors Art Project

BFA and BA students wishing to pursue research honors work with the School of Art and the Associate Provost's office to initiate an honors project. To qualify, candidates must have a 3.50 gpa or higher in their major, and 3.25 gpa or higher overall. Students have the opportunity to publish honors projects on IWU's Digital Commons.

Eckley Scholars and Artists Program

The Eckley Scholars and Artists Program supports summer research and creative activity for several students each year, enabling them to stay on campus over the summer to work under the direction of faculty mentors. The program was established by the late President Emeritus Robert S. Eckley, his wife Nell and the Eckley Family Foundation. Award: $4,000 (must be a currently enrolled student to qualify). Deadline is usually in February.

The Ames Library Scholarly & Artistic Research Proposal Award

The Ames Library Artistic and Scholarly Research Award program provides a funding opportunity for an IWU student under the supervision of a faculty sponsor to propose a significant research or creative project in their specific fields of study. Award: $500. Deadline is usually in March.
