BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan University’s Homecoming activities will once again include the annual Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95 Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk. The event, which is open to the public, starts at 8:15 a.m. and takes place on the track at the University’s Tucci Stadium, located behind the Shirk Center on the 400 block of Titan Drive.
Beaupre was among the first casualties of “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” when his helicopter crashed killing eight in the Kuwaiti desert on March 21, 2003. He was a Marine captain piloting CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters. Prior to entering the service, Beaupre was employed as an accountant at State Farm in Bloomington.
Honoring their fallen comrade at this year’s event will be the Ryan Beaupre Memorial Illinois Leathernecks Motorcycle Club.
Race day entries can be made at Tucci stadium from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. The 5K event will be preceded by a Kids Fun Run on the track at 8 a.m. For additional information, contact the Alumni Office at (309) 556-3251.
