BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Vincent Cefali has been awarded the 2012 David Nott Memorial Scholarship.
The senior music education major, Class of 2013, from Indian Head Park, Ill. was selected by the Collegiate Choir Director J. Scott Ferguson, in consultation with Mario Pelusi, director of the School of Music.
"Receiving the scholarship was such a great honor for me," said Cefali. "Choir is a foundational part of my life here at IWU and I am blessed to make such wonderful music with other students every day. We truly work as a familial unit and that has truly shaped my college experience."
The scholarship honors the legacy of the late David Nott, professor emeritus of voice and the former director of school activity at Illinois Wesleyan.
Nott taught at the University for 31 years, bringing recognition to an already distinguished choral program. Each spring break, he toured with the choir across the United States and produced critically acclaimed recordings. Among Nott's most distinguished students are world-renowned opera singers Roger Roloff and four-time Grammy Award-winner soprano Dawn Upshaw.
