Women's & Gender Studies Explore your passion

A Solid Foundation

The interdisciplinary major & minor sequences in Women's and Gender Studies support the Illinois Wesleyan University's commitment to diversity and social justice through courses that open discussion about the ways in which gender and gender identity construct our lives and institutions. WGS courses across multiple departments focus on gender issues in academic study, consider feminist perspectives in philosophy, and challenge assumptions about women's roles, gender identities, and sexualities in American and world cultures. Women's and Gender Studies courses are open to all undergraduates and most offer general education credit to meet diverse IWU requirements.

Opportunities to Explore

Honor Society

Iota Iota Iota (Tri-Iota) is the academic honor society for the field of Women’s and Gender Studies. The purpose of this organization is to encourage and support scholarship and excellence in Women’s and Gender Studies at IWU.

Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a great opportunity to study the intersection of gender and other minority group status. It is also a chance to take classes/explore topics that are not offered at IWU and to have them count toward your major or minor.

Feminism: Equality Matters

Feminism: Equality Matters (F:EM) is a registered student organization dedicated to promoting equality and respect on campus and in society. The goal of F:EM is to create a safe, comfortable space for individuals on Illinois Wesleyan's campus to explore intersectional issues such as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, ability, sexuality and socioeconomic status and how it influences their perceptions of the world and how others perceive them.
