1. Move-In, Move-Out Recycling:
In partnership with Home Sweet Home ministries during Spring 2012, the Office of Residential Life collected 1500 pounds of textiles and household items in large bins from students as they moved out of residence halls. The collection, called "Give-N-Go!," was initiated by Leadership McLean County, and brought IWU/ORL and Home Sweet Home Mission together for the initiative. In addition, as a result of residence hall move-in during Fall 2012, ORL collected and recycled 700-800 pounds of cardboard. This program will be offered indefinitely.

2. Ongoing Textile Recycling

It’s easy; it’s convenient, and a continuous way to move out the clothes and textile clutter in your home. Home Sweet Home Ministries (HSHM) has provided us with collection bins that are in three locations on campus. There is a bin located in Shirk just outside of the Wellness office, a bin located in Hansen Student Center just inside the entrance to the building and a bin located in Memorial Center by the information desk.  It’s a convenient way to drop-off unwanted clothing, textiles and shoes. These items will go back to HSHM and be sorted. Usable items will be sold in the Mission Mart, and items past their useful life will be recycled into new textiles and goods! All the proceeds from these efforts go to assist the homeless members of our community. Stop and drop off your unwanted items, and give them a second chance while keeping them out of our over flowing landfill!

3. Electronics, Battery, and Ink Cartridge Recycling

Information Technology Services began recycling university electronics in 2001 on a trial basis. Soon afterwards, ITS made electronics recycling a permanent fixture. In addition to recycling electronics, ITS will also accept batteries and ink cartridges. Either drop these parts off at residence hall desks or the IT House. This program will be offered indefinitely.

4. Drug Disposal

Drug disposal programs have been discontinued at Illinois Wesleyan.

5. Single Stream Recycling

In 2013, IWU has changed recycling contractors and now offer single stream recycling on campus. In the public areas, you can place plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper into the bins marked “Single Stream.”
