CommencementClass of 2020 Commencement Planned for August
Illinois Wesleyan plans to celebrate the Class of 2020 during a traditional outdoor Commencement ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 2. The event was rescheduled from May 3 due to coronavirus precautions.

Registration opens today for Illinois Wesleyan's pilot Summer Session. In response to the COVID-19 public health threat, all courses will be offered online, and some course offerings have changed.

5 p.m. Shelf Care Mondays – Creating Your Tree of Happiness – #OMEShelfCare is the Office of Multifaith Engagement's way of expressing the assortment of tools we each possess to get through tough moments. We invite you to disconnect on Monday evenings, even just for a few minutes, and lean into a restorative activity. We have suggestions for you, but do what feels right for you. Afterwards, please share a photo, video, or short reflection about your experience on social media using the #OMEShelfCare hashtag. We look forward to seeing where your practices take you!

6:30 p.m., Zoom – "Careers in Public Health, COVID-19, and the Response" – Matthew Roberts '01, MPH, DrPH, will discuss his role as a public health official fighting communicable disease outbreaks, preparing for and responding to public health emergencies, developing informatics capacity at health departments and in healthcare, and leading the assessment of Medicaid healthcare programs in New York. He will also provide context for the coronavirus pandemic, how health departments and healthcare systems respond, and what this means for the future.

4 p.m., Zoom – ReligiosiTEA (Virtual): Fact or Fiction - Hinduism w/ Shruti Pattekar '21 and Hindu YUVA – Bring a mug of tea or a snack, find a comfy spot to sit down, and join your interfaith friends for virtual ReligiosiTEA gatherings! ReligiosiTEA is a weekly program hosted by IWU Interfaith and the Office of Multifaith Engagement, exploring diverse topics related to religion, spirituality, and interfaith cooperation. IWU community members from all worldviews and faith backgrounds are welcome!

7 p.m., ZoomGeneral Trivia with CAB – Join the Campus Activities Board for some general trivia. The top 5 winners at the end of our session will get a prize. (Students, check your emails for the Zoom passcode.)

 

8 p.m., Zoom – CommunityCare Thursdays – Join Multifaith Ambassador Amanda Wesche for a casual hangout with Kahoots, conversation, and a space where people can just be together and get some social interaction (virtually of course).

Karen Barrett started March 2 as a custodian with Physical Plant, replacing Edilia Garcia, who retired.

 

Kristen Tolbert started March 16 as a custodian with Physical Plant, replacing Ron Rousey, who transferred to Assistant Manager of Custodial Services – 3rd Shift.

In Sympathy

Michael A. Vinson, who retired from IWU in 2019 after more than 50 years as a custodian, passed away on Thursday, April 2, at his home. There will be no services or visitation. An obituary is online.
