7 p.m., C101, CNS – Making Buildings Safe for Migratory Birds – Annette Prince, director of Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, will discuss concerns regarding up to a billion birds killed yearly in North America as a result of window collisions. She will talk about bird-safe building laws that are being developed currently in Chicago and around the region, bird-friendly building designs and practices, and discuss how to become a bird-safe building advocate. This presentation is free and open to the public, co-sponsored by the IWU Environmental Studies Program, Biology Department, and JWP Audubon.

5:30-7 p.m., Vinyard Room (former Davidson Room), Memorial Center – Oxfam Hunger Banquet – Don't miss your chance to experience the 17th annual OXFAM HUNGER BANQUET, which is an interactive simulation of how the world eats. First started as an annual event at IWU in 2003, the Banquet features 50 participants who become members of the world community – assigned to low, middle and high income – and are served a meal like people at various levels of wealth would eat in a typical day. Student presenters from several IWU courses will enrich the event with an eye-opening program that shares personal experiences and updated statistics about hunger in the U.S. and around the world amid a changing climate. Those looking for opportunities to help the hungry in our own community will also receive ideas.

A brief discussion of research on the topic will be followed by an audience discussion of key questions surrounding this risk factor for negative mental and physical health outcomes. Through Friday, Nov. 15, Memorial Center – African Student Association: Myths and Facts about Africa Interactive Exhibit – Across from the International Education Week 2019 display, the African Student Association, the African Studies Team, and the Anthropology Department are creating an interactive display.

5:30 p.m., Meet at Campus Safety – Campus Safety Walk – Please join Student Affairs for the annual Campus Safety Walk where we walk campus with an eye to any safety concerns (lighting, landscaping, sidewalk/trip hazards, etc). We welcome students, faculty and staff to join us or to send problem area descriptions to dstudent@iwu.edu. If you send a description, please be specific (location, issue; feel free to include a photo). We look forward to this safety assessment of our campus grounds.
